About Diwali 2026
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the Hindu Festival of Lights celebrated across India and by Hindu communities worldwide. It symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
The festival lasts five days, with the main celebration occurring on the darkest night of the lunar month. Families light oil lamps (diyas), decorate their homes with colorful rangoli patterns, exchange gifts, share festive meals, and set off fireworks. It's also a time for prayer, particularly to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
