About Remembrance Day 2026
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to honor armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. It is observed on November 11 to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918.
The day is particularly associated with red poppies, which grew on the battlefields of World War I. At 11:00 AM (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month), a two-minute moment of silence is observed to remember the fallen.
In the United States, November 11 is observed as Veterans Day, honoring all military veterans. In Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations, it specifically commemorates those who died in war.
