About Ramadan
Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam, commemorating when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. During this sacred month, Muslims around the world fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs.
Fasting (sawm) during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, intended to teach self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and spiritual purification. Each day, the fast is broken with Iftar, often shared with family, friends, and community members.
Ramadan is also a time for increased prayer, Quran recitation, and charitable giving (Zakat). The month concludes with Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking the Fast, one of the most joyous celebrations in Islam.
