About Dussehra 2026
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. It marks the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, as well as Goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
The festival concludes the nine-day Navaratri celebration. In many parts of India, large effigies of Ravana are burned in spectacular displays symbolizing the destruction of evil. In other regions, it's celebrated with processions, cultural performances, and religious ceremonies.
Dussehra also marks an auspicious time for new beginnings, with many people starting new ventures or learning new skills on this day. It's widely celebrated across India and Hindu communities worldwide.
