About Bitcoin Halving 2028
Bitcoin halving is a programmed event that occurs approximately every four years (every 210,000 blocks) where the reward for mining new Bitcoin blocks is cut in half. This reduces the rate at which new bitcoins are created and enters circulation.
The halving is a key feature of Bitcoin's monetary policy, designed to control inflation and mimic the scarcity of precious metals like gold. Previous halvings in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 have historically been followed by significant price movements.
The 2028 halving will reduce the block reward from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC per block, further decreasing the supply of new bitcoins entering the market.
